Go Thrift’s dynamic quartet, Carl Walker, Katie Walker, Sam Hunter, and Sarah Dean, are trailblazing the sustainable fashion movement, empowering shoppers with affordable, high-quality pre-loved clothing and earning recognition as finalists in the esteemed Great British Entrepreneur Awards 2023.
Carl Walker, Katie Walker, Sam Hunter and Sarah Dean are the pioneering founders behind Go Thrift, one of the UK’s leading second-hand fashion retailers. Since launching in 2019, their mission has been clear: to accelerate the switch to a more sustainable fashion economy by providing high-quality pre-loved clothing at affordable prices.
Driven by a shared passion for sustainable entrepreneurship, the four founders were concerned about the detrimental impact of fast fashion. They identified an opportunity to create an ethical business that bridged the gap between sustainability and affordability. Alongside environmental motivations, the team were also committed to contributing to local job growth and building a team of like-minded individuals passionate about pioneering circular fashion.
In just three years, Go Thrift has sold over 300,000 items of pre-loved clothing and grown from four founders to a team of 40. Their efforts were recognised in 2022, winning Marie Claire’s ‘Best Re-Commerce Brand’ in the sustainability awards. They have also featured on ITV’s This Morning and News, highlighting the dual benefits of second-hand fashion. With revenues forecast to hit £4 million this year, their growth has been meteoric.
Looking ahead, Go Thrift plans to expand internationally and introduce a managed marketplace, enabling individuals to sell through their platform. These initiatives aim to accelerate the second-hand fashion industry’s growth, increasing its accessibility, popularity and environmental impact. To support their ambitious growth strategy, Go Thrift is planning a Series A investment round in 2024.
As finalists in the 2023 Great British Entrepreneur Awards, known as “The Grammys of Entrepreneurship”, Carl, Katie, Sam and Sarah have demonstrated inspirational entrepreneurial spirit. Their journey is a shining example of how business can drive positive change. To learn more about these pioneering entrepreneurs and Go Thrift, visit www.gothrift.co.uk.
