Meet Thomas Farquhar and Simon Roberts, the visionaries behind Heatio, bringing renewable energy to every home and finalists at the prestigious Great British Entrepreneur Awards 2023.
Thomas Farquhar and Simon Roberts are the co-founders of Heatio, an innovative cleantech company on a mission to make renewable energy accessible to all. Launched in 2022, Heatio is developing smart technology and funding solutions to help homeowners transition to sustainable energy, to reduce their energy costs whilst ultimately lowering carbon emissions.
Farquhar and Roberts were inspired to start Heatio due to their shared belief that everyone should have the ability to adopt renewable energy, regardless of their financial situation. They recogniszed that while residential properties produce a significant portion of greenhouse gas emissions, the complex and expensive process of retrofitting homes with energy-efficient technology was preventing many people from making a change.
To solve this problem, Heatio are developing their Home Energy Management System (HEMS), which will provides customiszed recommendations for how homeowners can improve efficiency and transition to renewable energy sources based on an analysis of their home and energy usage data. In 2022, Heatio partnered with E.ON as part of the UK government’s Heat Pump Ready programme to help homeowners prepare to install heat pumps. They have since secured over £500,000 in funding and won several government contracts to further develop and implement their innovative HEMS technology and energy-as-a-service business model.
Heatio’s biggest success to date was being named Liverpool’s Start-up of the Year in 2023. Within the next two years, Farquhar and Roberts aim to have 50,000 homes connected to Heatio’s HEMS platform, helping many households achieve significant energy savings and move closer to net zero emissions.
